Privacy Policy – Lexify

Overview

Lexify is a Chrome Extension that helps users learn and retain vocabulary using spaced repetition. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Data We Collect

• Email address – used to create and identify your account via Firebase Authentication.
• Vocabulary cards – words, definitions, and review history that you create within the app, stored in Firebase Firestore.
• Selected text from webpages – when you highlight a word and use the right-click "Add to Lexify" context menu, that selected text is read locally to pre-fill the Add Card form. It is not transmitted to our servers.
• Gemini API key (optional) – if you choose to enable the AI sentence check feature, you may enter your own Google Gemini API key in Settings. This key is stored locally in chrome.storage.sync (synced across your Chrome-signed-in devices by Google) and is sent directly from your browser to Google's Generative Language API. It is never sent to or stored by us.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the Lexify service — authenticating your account and syncing your vocabulary cards across sessions. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.

Third-Party Services

• Firebase (Google) – authentication and database storage. Subject to Firebase Privacy Policy.
• Merriam-Webster API – fetching English word definitions. No personal data is sent.
• Google Translate API – translating words to Vietnamese. No personal data is sent.
• Google Generative Language API (Gemini) – optional AI-powered grammar and spelling feedback on example sentences. Only called when you have entered your own Gemini API key in Settings. The request contains only the target word and the sentence you typed — no account information or personal data is sent. Subject to Google Generative AI Terms.

Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is stored as long as your account exists. To delete your data, contact us at the email below and we will remove it within 30 days.
